black magic cocktail recipe
make your cocktail spooky with charcoal!
We all know by now that charcoal is a natural detoxifier.
So does mixing it into your cocktail cancel out the impact of alcohol? We wish!
In all truthfulness, this cocktail is not about being healthy. It's about being fun! Sometimes that's what you really need.
And while activated charcoal is not something you want to over-consume, this cocktail has just enough to give it a deep, dark color that makes it perfect for spooky occasions like Halloween (or a 40th birthday party!).
For our recipe we start with an 8oz jar of our "Hangover Helper" Monster Shot. Yes, we know, the irony is killing us too. This one little jar will make 4 of these cocktails and contains perfect ingredients for this cocktail: lemon juice, coconut water, a little cayenne pepper, and CHARCOAL! We've mixed it with one of our favorite spirits, mezcal. Similar to tequila, mezcal is also made from a species of the agave plant, but has a rich, smoky flavor all its own. Once thought of as "the worm tequila," today's premium mezcal does NOT contain worms and is delicious, refined and versatile spirt that's worth keeping on hand.
Ingredients (makes 1 cocktail):
2 oz Hangover Helper Monster Shot
2 oz premium silver mezcal (we used Montelobos)
1/2 oz fresh-squeezed lemon juice
1/2 oz agave nectar
1/2 oz Grand Marnier or other orange liquer
lemons and Luxardo Maraschino Cherries for garnish (optional)
In a cocktail shaker, add the Hangover Helper, mezcal, lemon juice, agave nectar and orange liqueur. Fill with ice, cover and shake vigorously for 15-30 seconds. Transfer cocktail to a large rocks glass and garnish with a strip of lemon zest and a cherry or two. Enjoy!
